The December temperature outlook favors well above average temperatures across most of the country, with the exception of much of California, the Southwest, and Maine, where equal chances (EC) of above-, near-, or below-normal temperatures are predicted. Since the MJO is expected to remain active and progress towards the Maritime Continent and then the west Pacific, forecasters also considered potential MJO impacts. But the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO)-a conjoined area of heavy rains and clear, calm skies that travel the tropics together as a couple-was active over the Indian Ocean at the end of November. El Niño continued to strengthen during November across the tropical Pacific and was again considered as a dominant teleconnection for the outlooks during December. Other tools that forecasters considered this month were various longer-range forecast models such as the Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS), the Climate Forecast System (CFSv2), and products derived from these models. The updated outlooks were produced considering the Week 1 forecast from the Weather Prediction Center (WPC), and CPC’s own Week 2 and Week 3-4 outlooks. More details about interpreting the outlooks can be found here. And before we dig into the specifics of the outlooks, just a gentle reminder that the colors on the temperature and precipitation outlook maps only provide information about the most likely outcome, but other outcomes are always possible, just less likely to occur. I’ll also discuss the current state of drought, how it changed during November, and the drought outlook for December. The effect also required lots of development on how the rain drops should behave while they’re hanging in the air, especially given that the magical effect had to based on a physically plausible idea which is explained in the film’. Said Anthony, ‘We experimented with various levels of defocus to get the right look, intentionally deviating from the real world camera settings when required to make sure that the foreground droplets weren’t distracting for the viewer. As well as the huge technical challenges involved in these shots, it was also important to strike a balance between creating beautiful on-screen wizardry and keeping a strong sense of realism. This is all set in front of a live-action crowd of cheering fans in Greenwich. Lizzy Caplan and Tom Riley celebrate the screening at the after party. One of the most spellbinding sequences in the film shows magician Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) stopping rain in mid-air, moving the droplets around with some deft hand movements before falling back into a puddle and disappearing into the water. The idea that there are superheroes of the mind, that are trying to break down that idea and getting people to see what is happening around them, I think is a really cool idea and I think we can explore that a lot more,” revealed director Jon M. “If you think about magic, it’s about belief – putting value into things that don’t actually have value. We went to magic school for a couple weeks - they drilled it into us as much as they could! And we always had magicians on set, three of them,” explained Lizzy Caplan on learning how to become one of the Four Horsemen.ĭave Franco and Mark Ruffalo were all smiles on the carpet. They were really welcoming and we got along really well. “ is a new member of the team and I was obviously a new member of the team as well, that was really helpful. You get a little peek in this movie and I hope it makes the character a little more relatable and interesting,” he added. In the first one, he’s just this street kid - you don’t know a ton about his background. “In the first movie, he is the new kid, he’s trying to prove himself - prove that he is worthy of being a part of this group of magicians,” said Dave Franco on the maturation of his character Jack Wilder from “Now You See Me” to the sequel “Now You See Me 2.” “And in this one he’s more settled, and comfortable, and confident in his own skin. Comprised of fight sequences and stealthy card tricks, the comedic adventure takes a closer and more personal look into the lives of the Four Horsemen - from rivalries to romance - before leading to one last surprising twist. In some elements, the nucleus can split as a result of absorbing an additional neutron, through a process called nuclear fission. When radioisotopes are used in medicine or industry, it is vital to know how rapidly they lose their radioactivity, in order to know the precise amount of radioisotope that is available for the medical procedure or industrial use. This time can range from fractions of a second (for radon-220) to millions of years (for thorium-232). Essentially, a half-life of a radioactive material is the time it takes one-half of the atoms of a radioisotope to decay by emitting radiation. This gradual loss of radioactivity is measured in half-lives. Through this process - called radioactive decay - radioisotopes lose their radioactivity over time. This radiation can be emitted in the form of positively charged alpha particles, negatively charged beta particles, gamma rays, or x-rays, as explained below. This less-familiar form of radiation includes alpha particles, beta particles, and neutrons, as explained below.Īs previously indicated, large unstable atoms become more stable by emitting radiation to get rid of excess atomic energy ( radioactivity). The other form of radiation - known as particle radiation - is tiny fast-moving particles that have both energy and mass (weight). Familiar types of electromagnetic radiation include sunlight ( cosmic radiation), x-rays, radar, and radio waves. This form of radiation - known as electromagnetic radiation - is like vibrating or pulsating rays or "waves" of electrical and magnetic energy. One form of radiation is pure energy with no weight. In that process, unstable nuclei may emit a quantity of energy, and this spontaneous emission is what we call radiation.įor additional information, see the following topics on this page:Īs previously indicated, matter gives off energy (radiation) in two basic physical forms. These forces within the atom work toward a strong, stable balance by getting rid of excess atomic energy ( radioactivity). The nucleus carries a positive electrical charge, while the electrons carry a negative electrical charge. Atoms are made up of various parts the nucleus contains minute particles called protons and neutrons, and the atom's outer shell contains other particles called electrons. The water evaporates into steam which turns a turbine, which in turn drives a generator to produce electricity.Radiation is energy given off by matter in the form of rays or high-speed particles. The kinetic energy of the neutrons is harnessed by the nuclear reactor and used to heat water. The reactor is covered with a thick concrete shield to ensure that no radiation is able to penetrate through and escape the reactor. To stop this happening, the reactor contains control rods, usually made of boron, which absorb some of the extra neutrons so that only a single neutrons is released per fission event. It is important that the chain reaction doesn’t get out of hand, otherwise the reactor could explode. These neutrons hit other nuclei in a chain reaction. When a neutron is absorbed by a nucleus, it undergoes a fission event, breaking apart into two nuclei and two or three neutrons. Fission only works if the neutron is moving slowly enough to be absorbed by a nucleus so nuclear reactors contain something called a moderator, usually made of graphite, which reduces the speed of the neutrons, making them more likely to be absorbed by a nucleus. Fission is used in nuclear reactors to produce energy. The alternative reporting method is the direct method. The indirect method of presentation is very popular, because the information required for it is relatively easily assembled from the accounts that a business normally maintains in its chart of accounts. The indirect method is less favored by the standard-setting bodies, since it does not give a clear view of how cash flows through a business. The format of the indirect method appears in the following example. In the presentation format, cash flows are divided into the following general classifications: It presents information about cash generated from operations and the effects of various changes in the balance sheet on a company's cash position. The statement of cash flows is one of the components of a company's set of financial statements, and is used to reveal the sources and uses of cash by a business. This article discusses the ins and outs of the types of cash flow and how they might impact your business. The indirect method for the preparation of the statement of cash flows involves the adjustment of net income with changes in balance sheet accounts to arrive at the amount of cash generated by operating activities. To calculate FCF, locate sales or revenue on the income statement, subtract the sum of taxes and all operating costs (listed as “operating expenses”), which include items such as cost of goods sold (COGS) and selling, general, and administrative costs (SG&A).įinally, subtract the required investments in operating capital, also known as the net investment in operating capital, which is derived from the balance sheet. What is the Cash Flow Statement Indirect Method? This method utilizes the income statement and balance sheet as the source of information. Using sales revenue focuses on the revenue that a company generates through its business and then subtracts the costs associated with generating that revenue. The information can be found in the cash. It is an indicator that helps analysts and investors understand the financial performance of the business. In other words, free cash flow is the cash left over after a company pays for its operating expenses (OpEx) and capital expenditures (CapEx). Free cash flow is calculated as cash flow from operating activities, reduced by capital expenditures, the value for which is normally obtained from the. Operating cash flow is an important and fundamental financial metric that shows how much cash flow a business is able to generate from the core operations.
